Description:
The claims for Searles' patent center on the cast, or wrought, metallic "socket" head. The wooden stocks fit into slightly tapered sockets in the head and are further secured by screws. The purpose of this arrangement is to allow easy replacement of the wooden stocks when they become "crushed or worn-out."
