The patentee shared a name with an important early inventor and builder of saws for cutting ship timbers. This patent is 21 years before the first in a long line of patents that were awarded to James Hamilton of New York, and therefore it is unlikely that it is the same man.

This patent's specification and drawings were lost in the Patent Office fire of December 1836, and so little is known about this patent.
