Early chain pipe wrench; kept in production over several decades. Ken Cope's "American Wrench Makers 1830-1930" identifies the history of production and distribution, citing ads from various hardware trade periodicals.

This patent is referenced in M. T. Chapman's March 7, 1882 patent (no. 254,460).

An improvement patented on July 31, 1882 (pat. no. 282,372) is not known to have been used.
