Description:
Offset handle to keep the hands away from thorns, etc. in the grain bundles and to serve as a "guard" to keep the hand from sliding on to the sharp knife edge. The serrated edge facilitates cutting the band holding grain bundles together before they are fed into the threshing machine.

An "Improved Band Knife" with these features appeared in an 1894 Whitman & Barnes catalog.
