1858 ad for Thos. B. Woodward & Co.
Description:
This hoop-making machine uses a spindle-moulder cutter to shape a hoop cross-section on the surface of a log, and then uses a saw to cut it off the log. There are also provisions to guide the cutter and saw to follow the grain of the wood.

The 1858 McElroy's Philadelphia Directory, page 15 in the Business Directory section at the back of the volume, has a full-page ad from Thos. B. Woodward & Co., which lists "Peirson's patent barrel hoop & moulding machines" among the products it manufactured. See link to view the ad.
