Description: |
| A screw-adjust wrench with the adjusting worm held in partial-open position by a tension spring. A side lever on the handle bears against the adjusting worm to tighten the grip of the jaws, and provide sufficient difference to allow for "ratchet action" The notches in the jaws shown in the patent drawings would allow the wrench to grip corners as well as flats. The jaw notches appear in the tool as produced.
The July 22, 1919 date on the handle references Canadian patent CA-191,760. A 1922 ad for the wrench notes the factory was in Windsor, Ontario. The physical appearance of the wrench corresponds to George B. Anderson's April 24, 1924 patent (no. 1,490,903). That patent is referenced on a late variant produced by the Claude-Sintz Mfr. of Detroit. |
