Description:
Pliers type tool for opening and closing chain links. Advertised in 1920 as the "Link-Key" chain pliers by Mayhew Tool Co. of Williamstown, MA.

Other than being formed of stamped metal parts rather than forged parts, functionally it is nearly identical to patent no. 1,320,547 granted to Edward F. Happensack of Cincinnati, OH ( also on Nov. 4, 1919! ) -- the patent used for the I.X.L. and other chain pliers. Happensack's application is dated nine days earlier than this patent's.
