Description:
The wedge shaped "fixed" jaw has a central bore for passage of lubricant. The end with the "spreader" can be adjusted to compensate for different widths of springs by a clamping nut and wedge teeth that engage the base of the frame. The "spreader" is a circular piece eccentrically mounted on a shaft; the edge ranges from thin to thick. The shaft holding the spreader extends some distance beyond the frame base and the portion extending beyond the frame is hexagonal. An auxiliary wrench (fig. 4 in the drawings) operates the shaft with the "spreader" and also is used to loosen and tighten the clamping nut.

An example of the auxiliary wrench is known, marked "T5 - R W AMMONS L.A. CAL / PAT PEND"
