Description:
The patent describes a two or three-heat forging process with punches and dies to form hammer heads amd shows the shape of the head through the several forming processes.

Pat. no. 186,590 is for a related forging die.

In the 1869-1870 Norwich Business Directory, Maydole and Merritt are listed as partners in D. Maydole & Co., and Merritt is also Vice-President of the Chenango County Savings Bank. Maydole was Village President at the time.
