Description:
Foss left Stanley R&L and joined Phillip Chapin and George Mosher in making planes in Pine Meadow. The planes used this patented cutter adjustment and Foss's later patented 207599 jointed lever cap. These planes were in the style of the Bailey Tool Company's sidewalls with the cresting wave profile. When Bailey Tool sold out to Stanley in 1880, Chapin, Foss, and Mosher sold them their planemaking business to avoid problems with Stanley. Mosher subsequently started Birmingham Plane Manufacturing Company in 1885.
