Report data errors or omissions to steward Stan Schulz
Description:
Compound leverage end nippers with internal spring to open the jaws, corresponding to U.S. patent 209,677. Alexander Melville Clark was a British patent agent.

The entry in *Abridgments of Specifications" does not show the registration date, so an arbitrary late September 1878 date was chosen until more accurate information is obtained.

Note: Early British patents (pre 1916) were numbered by the year and started at patent #1 at the start of each year in January. The patent # used in DATAMP represents the year of registration and the patent # (with "leading zeros" interposed to make the number total nine digits). This patent is #3772 of the year 1878.
