Description:
The patent appears to correspond most nearly to Canadian patent CA-12,953; Whiting held a series of U.S. patents marking stages in development of the pincers and belt coupling including 232,428, 243,480 and 256,525. Alexander Melville Clark was a British patent agent.

Note: Early British patents (pre 1916) were numbered by the year and started at patent #1 at the start of each year in January. The patent # used in DATAMP represents the year of registration and the patent # (with "leading zeros" interposed to make the number total nine digits). This patent is #2477 of the year 1881.
