Description:
Specialty pliers type tool designed to hold half-circle tapered "keys" used as retainers for engine valve springs. Springs are used to clamp the keys in the jaws, and to close the jaws.

Fig. 1 of the drawing shows the tool in context of use, and includes other related tools, i.e. valve spring compressor & "shield" to catch the "keys" when the valve spring is compressed. (See pat. no. 1,776,159 for the shield.)

Harry W. Kulp and Martin C. Dellinger were the founders of KD Mfg. Co. of Lancaster, PA.
