Description:
"The applicant claims no part of said machine as new and as his invention, excepting the guide as above specified, connected with the screw gauges, and the sheef (sheave) moved by the cam, as above specified, for sawing clapboards."

An 1863 newspaper reads, "August 7, died, Samuel Goss, aged seventy-five years. Mr. Goss was a mechanic of more than ordinary ability. He was something of a millwright, operating a mill in several places in town, but during the latter part of his life having a small mill upon the north side of the Amherst road, upon a brook which empties into the Souhegan near the old Knowlton shop."
