This vise was manufactured by a series of related companies: Moore & Barnes Manufacturing Co. (1886-1890), Barnes Manufacturing Co. (1890-1895), and Phoenix Hardware Manufacturing Co. (1895-1917). Reported examples of this patent vise have been seen with a variety of markings. One example was labeled only with the patent date. Another example was marked with the patent date and "H & B". Exhaustive research has not provided any solid evidence for what "H & B" stood for.
