Description:
The spring-loaded gripping "dog" in the movable jaw extends past the sides of the shank. These extended sides are to release the grip to adjust the jaw.

The patent is the adjusting means for the combination pipe and nut wrench Campfield patented on April 10, 1888 (no. 380,859). A known example of that wrench was produced by the Brown Specialty Manufacturing Company.
