Description:
This rotary glass cutter features a rotating "magazine" of hardened steel cutters, and a rubber backing on the hub to keep it from slipping.

Known examples marked "Alex Rowland NY" with the patent date.

Note that there are very similar tools covered under a pair of 1922 patents granted to Carl Doerr: #1,421,921 and #1,424,625. While both were produced in the New York City area, it is not known if the two patented tools are related in any way.

The assignees, Richard N. Oakman, Jr. and Warren P. Dustin, were co-owners of John Russell Cutlery Co. Chris Clawson, of the Museum of Our Industrial Heritage, reports a a glass cutter that is labelled "John Russell Cutlery, Turners Falls Mass" and also says that it was made under the Rowland patent.
