Description:
Longval's plane oiler includes a hollow knob that contains an oil absorbent material, an elastic packing to make it oil and air tight to the sole, and perforations in the sole. According to Roger K. Smith in PTAMPIA2, Longval purchased Stanley planes and modified them to include his oiler. PTAMPIA2 shows a plane with an oiler that Smith attributes to Longval's other oiler patent 471391, however, that patent is for a plane with an integral oil chamber and a plug for sealing the chamber. I believe the modified planes actually have an oiler of this patent. (Typo on patent number on page 127 of PTAMPIA2)
