| Patent claim describes several variations of the basic idea of securing cutting tips to the ends of augers with dovetail ways and transverse locking pins. One notable claim has to do with a vertical wall (stop) in the pod, or flute, of the body of the auger, to stop the advance of the chips when they rise to that level (illustration 2). The idea is that this will be a positive stop to the action of the bit when boring deep holes, so that it will be backed out of the hole and the chips cleared before they become compacted. |
