Description:
The patent describes the design considerations that dictate the jaw shape and position of the pivot. As noted by the title, one of the design considerations is that the jaws grip pipe at three places. The results are shown both as a swinging "self-adjusting" hook jaw, and as a "pliers / tongs" pipe wrench.
