Description:
Fence tool incorporating nail claw, wire cutter, wire gripping surfaces, and a swinging handle latch. The specifications describe how the tool can used to splice fence wire or be used as a wrench or vise. Improves Stetler's Oct. 18, 1892 patent no. 484,684.

An intermediate design patent (No. D30,281 granted to Stetler on Feb. 28, 1899 ) envisioned a slightly different form for the clamping / cutting lever handle.

Variations of Stetler's combination tool (some marked with Jan. 2, 1900 and May 14, 1901 patent dates) appear in Smith's "Collectors Guide For Fencing Tools." The manufacturer(s) were not identified.
