Vintage Machinery entry for Lapointe Machine Tool Co.
Description:
"With such tools as finishing-reamers when used in a turret-machine it is necessary to allow some later play in the support to provide for correct centering in the work, and when they are of large diameter and therefore heavy the natural tendency is for them to sag downward, so that upon entering the work their weight causes them to cut most deeply at the lower side. This distortion gradually decreases as more of the body of the reamer comes into bearing upon the work, being a minimum when the entire length of the blade is in contact. Then as the reamer emerges from the hole this vertical elongation increases until the work is cleared. To obviate such defects are the principal objects of my invention."
