Description: |
| A hinged jaw segment with teeth attaches to a screw-adjusting collar, and a spring tends to keep the jaw segment pushed out from the main shank. The jaw is shaped so that putting pressure on pipe or other round tightens the grip, and releasing pressure relaxes the grip so that the wrench can be used on multiple items of the same size without readjustment. The specifications contrast the design with Bartholomew & Merrick's January 2, 1849 patent (no. 6,002), and Stillson & Chapman's October 31, 1865 patent (no. 50,748).
The patent is cited on the R.R. Rouse pipe wrenches produced in Indianapolis, IN which were based on John E. Sanders' July 18, 1882 patent (no. 261,486.) |
