Description:
Robert S. Carr - patent attorney

My invention relates to relieving mechanisms for engine lathes, of the class adapted for turning fluted reamers or other tools with relieved cutting edges, and the objects of my improvement are to provide means to reciprocate the tool carrier in different horizontal angles of adjustment; to adjust the tool carrier in the direction of its reciprocating movement; to provide means to automatically advance or retard the movement of reciprocation of the tool carrier in relation to the speed of rotation of articles to be turned to register with, a, predetermined helical line thereon; to provide adjustable means to adapt the attachment to relieve the rutting edges of either straight or tapered articles having a predetermined number of either straight or helical flutes, and to adapt the mechanism to a wide variety of engine lathes.
