Description:
Stillson's pipe wrench has teeth on both the fixed jaw and adjustable jaw. The adjusting knurl is housed in a pivoted frame which allows the teeth to grip pipe without "locking." The patent was improved by Stillson in subsequent patents issued Sept. 13, 1870 (no.107,304), and April 30, 1872 (no 126,161), and by C.C. Walworth in 1882 (no. 262,263).

The mechanical principles of this design were used as the basic assumption for a multitude of subsequent pipe wrench designs.

Corresponding British patent GB-187001227 was granted April 28, 1870.
