Description:
The patented feature is the placement and shape of the depressions and "ribs" on the ends of the "S" wrench between the jaw openings.

Eberhard Mfg. Co. of Cleveland produced wrenches matching this design in a range of sizes. Markings include the company logo (a circled E), a part number of four digits plus a letter, and PATD. Illustrations from an early Eberhard catalog are reproduced on pg. 155 of P.T. Rathbone's "History of Old Time Farm Implement Companies and the Wrenches they Issued," vol. 1.

Pope received 30 consecutive design patents for malleable iron buggy and carriage parts on Nov. 14, 1882 (D13,406 - D13,435) including four wrenches (this patent and D13,430, D13,431, and D13,434).
