Description:
The design for a gripping face features diagonal serrations on the gripping surface, and a straight-sided angular shank on the lower portion. The jaw piece was used in late production versions of Donohue's combination nut and pipe wrench marketed by Tower & Lyon of New York City.

See patent nos.195,589, 238,369, and 268,784 for the evolution of this wrench's features. Donohue's other Nov. 12, 1889 patent (no. 414,799) was not used.
