Description:
This improvement to the Irland Pipe Wrench (pat. nos. 732,858, 739,316, 800,850) modifies the lever and linkage that open the hook jaw. The rod connecting the lever handle extends further into the handle, and the lever connects to the rod at mid-point ahead of the spring rather than pushing the end of the rod behind the spring. With these modifications, the operating lever is closer to the main handle, and there is less lost motion.

Known "seven inch" examples of the IRLAND PIPE WRENCH seem to reflect this modification to the original patents.

Parallel patent no. 868,127 keeps the lever handle at the end of the rod, behind the spring, but introduces other modifications.
