Pond and Wilson—patent attorneys Abstract: This invention relates in general to the art of metal working tools, and has more particular reference to automatically controlled multiple spindle turret lathes of the station type. Within this type my invention has special reference to lathes characterized by the provision of a plurality of work- carrying spindles or chucks mounted on a work carrier adapted to be rotated in step by step movements to various stations, such as loading and working stations, and a tool carrier adapted to be brought into and out of operation with respect to the work at each station, the arrangement being such that as the work is moved from station to station each tool or set of tools in a tool holder successively perform a plurality of operations thereon. It is desirable to operate the work and tool carrying devices in predetermined timed relation and sequence by automatic control mechanism so that accuracy' and precision in operation is obtained as well as uniformity and expedition. Claim: In a multiple spindle lathe, the combination with a work carrier and a tool carrier one of which is rotatable with respect, to the other, of mechanism for indexing the rotatable carrier including at pair of elliptical gears.
