Description: |
A series of flat tumbler leaves adjusts the size of the opening. In known examples these leaves are numerous and thin allowing for fairly fine adjustment. Wrench collector folklore says these were used in the German submarine service.
The corresponding British patent GB-191309279 notes a 1912 German patent [April 26, 1912 D.R.G.M DG-508,971], and gives Huber's first name as Jacob.
A notice in July 14, 1921 AMERICAN MACHINIST supplies a Swiss manufacturer's / distributor's name and location.
The No. 1 size is 6 inches long; No. 3 is 14 inches long with the opening having 8 increments from 1 inch through 1 5/8 inch. See also entry for the British patent for information about manufacture / import in the early 1920s Britain. |
