Description:
Abstract:

A dial bore gauge comprises a gauging head 11 with a retractable gauging plunger 21 moving generally transversely of the gauge axis for contacting the inner wall of a bore under test and an indicator 13, the motion of the gauging plunger being transmitted to the indicator by rack teeth on the plunger, meshing with a gear 31 which in turn meshes with a first rack 37 which operates an indicator contact member. In the embodiment illustrated the gauging head is provided with two centralizing plungers 18, 20 both provided with rack teeth 18a, 20a which engage integral pinions 22, 23. A second rack 41 meshes with pinion 23, both racks 41 and 37 being connected via an arm to an extension rod 60 which operates the indicator contact member 14. The rod 60 is moved by a trigger 85 to retract the gauging and centralizing plungers and after insertion into a bore the trigger is released and due to the spring- biased members in the device, the plungers are extended into contact with the bore walls. The movement of member 14 will give an indication of bore diameter on the dial indicator 13. A second embodiment is shown for use as a concentricity gauge, the centralizing plungers being omitted and a sleeve or plug being mounted on the barrel of the device for positioning the device in the bore under test.
