Description:
This improvement is aimed at preventing the axe from cutting the leather (or other material) that forms this case. An example is reported, labeled "Crosby's patent Ax-pocket" and the patent date. The inventor was a medical doctor who died in 1883, age 44, of pleurisy following a lengthy period of failing health. We do not know for certain whether he manufactured this invention himself or licensed it to someone else. Others have concluded that Crosby was indeed the manufacturer but we don't know what evidence there is to support this. See Canada patent CA-11,503 for an earlier version of this invention.
