The inventor was a "manufacturer". "My invention has relation more particulary to certain improvements on and additions to that class of machines commonly known as 'Woodward planers' (presumably this is supposed to say 'Woodworth planers') the object being to adapt the machines to the manufacture of a special description of dressed lumber suitable for wash-boards."
