Description:
The main features are: 1) The hardened toothed insert in the shank of the movable jaw which also acts as a stop to retain the jaw in the wrench frame. 2) The pivoted toothed lever which engages the toothed insert to hold the adjustment. A spring at the base of the lever holds it in engagement, and the lever fits in a slot in the wrench frame to keep it aligned with the movable shank. The lever and rack adjustment concept also appears in Newton's parallel pipe wrench patent (no. 807,397).

The "alligator wrench" type openings in the handle are not included in the patent claims.
