Description:
The inventor's first name is given as Edward on the patent specification, but as Edwin in the Commissioner of Patents' Annual Report. There is little doubt that "Edwin" is correct. He went on to be a designer and patentee of barrel making machinery for E. & B. Holmes, Buffalo, NY.

"The nature of my invention consists in making tongue and groove, tools with beveled cutting-edges, and so arranged, as regards said edges, that the same are competent to execute the work in a more perfect manner than when performed by the tools now in common use."
