| The patent focuses on manufacturing processes; the design is very close to one used by the Mossberg Wrench Company in the U.S. (See patents GB-189525012 and 552,325), as appears in a Dec. 19, 1896 ad for Hall's STELLITE No. 3 bicycle wrench. No example of this wrench has been identified to verify its markings.
Note: Early British patents (pre 1916) were numbered by the year and started at patent #1 at the start of each year in January. The standard patent # convention for these uses the year of registration and the patent #, with "leading zeros" interposed to make the number total nine digits. This patent is #1,849 of the year 1896. |
