Vintage Machinery entry for Newton & Thompson

 |
|
| Description: | | The inventor was partner in Howard, Newton & Co., founded in 1856 along with Benomi Howard and Edward C. Thompson; that firm made turned wood items, especially pill and match boxes (Edward C. Thompson began making match-boxes in 1849). In 1866 it became Newton & Thompson, then in 1897 it became the Newton & Thompson Mfg. Co. We have seen an 1870 ad from Newton & Thompson that says they are the sole manufacturers of "Newton's Automatic Spool Machine, for making pill boxes, spools, tassel moulds, &c." | |
