Description: |
| The patent is for the enlarged counterbore of the threaded hole in the adjustable jaw, and the extra metal in the jaw surrounding the hole. This feature is to prevent the adjusting knurl from "sticking" when the wrench is opened to its widest adjustment. The movable jaw appears to be hollow malleable cast with some machining.
The handle connection to the shank is the "lock ferule" of March 6, 1866 no. 52,968, which was later replaced with the structure in 180,417. All these patents figured in the complicated "COLLINS v. COES" patent litigation. |
