| In 1777, Thomas Farrington, of Groton, Mass., was a surveyor and a lieutenant colonel in the Revolutionary Army. He was discharged after being found guilty of passing counterfeit money. Farrington claimed that he was duped by a man who had passed him the money.Because of the Patent Office fire in December 1836, little is known about this patent.
