Description: |
| This specialty pliers design has jaws that slide past each other, with notched faces to guide the legs of wire staples to form barbs on smooth fence wires.
A known example is marked "D&B PAT AUG 10 75." The two halves are identical, made of malleable cast iron. The pincers is also shown as #165 & #170 in "Collectors Guide For Fencing Tools" by Richard Smith and Richard Smith, Jr.
Dobbs and Booth had a series of patents relating to barbed wire and barbing tools. The "U" shaped barb appears in patent no. 171,105 granted Dec. 14, 1875. |
