Description: |
| Tapered flat spring steel bent to conform to the exterior of a "hex" nut or bolt head grips when moved in one direction, and relaxes sufficiently to allow a form of ratchet action when moved in the opposite direction.
Corresponding British patent GB-191127092 registered Dec. 4, 1911 makes reference to a 1910 German patent registration.
A wrench matching this design was described as "an ingenious German wrench" in a 1914 Popular Mechanics write-up. It is noted as the "Ce-Ha-We" ["C.H.W."] produced by Winterhoff in a 1917 German review of wrenches useful in relation to automobiles.
A known example is marked in both "inch" and metric sizes, with text in French - "PATENT POIGNE BREVETE." |
