Description: |
| This patent is for the original bottle-cap and the associated shape of bottle-top. A round metal disk is stamped with corrugations along its outer edge to create a rim extending down and leaving a flat central portion that is roughly the same size and shape as the top of the bottle. A machine is used to crimp the cap onto a bottle filled with, e.g., a carbonated beverage. Variations of this bottle-cap design are proposed for lower pressure applications such that the crimping forces are lower as not to damage the neck of a bottle intended for those lower pressures.Subsequent patents to the same inventor, relating to bottling machines and glycerin-impregnated cork material for use as a gasket, were assigned to the Crown Cork & Seal Co. of Baltimore, and they manufactured these bottle caps, and most likely licensed the patent to others as well.For the bottling machine associated with this bottle-cap, see patent 473,776.
