Description: |
| "Calf weaner" -- a wire "basket" pivoted on a "bail," held on the animal's head by a leather headstall. The bail structure would shift the "basket" to allow grazing and drinking, but drop it when the animal's head raised, to prevent sucking.
In the absence of catalog listings or advertising images, brief directory listings for "Swender" weaners invite further research. (See also patents 836,949, 869,108, 896,598, 1,285,838). A 1911 hardware trade journal item noted A.W. Swender was Vice-President of Carroll Muzzle Co., and working to move that company to St. Louis. |
