Description:
This patent describes how three-phase systems can be connected in either delta or wye configurations so that three wires instead of six are required to transmit the three-phase voltages. The result is a very substantial savings in copper, which is a major expense in building electric power distribution systems, especially over longer distances. This is a key factor in the subsequent near-universal adoption of three-phase electric distribution systems.
