 TOWER v. Bemis & Call

| Description: | | Boardman's improvements to A.W. Park's combination tool patented May 30, 1865 (48,027) include a pipe gripping insert in the jaw, a retaining pin for the adjusting knurl, a square socket in the end of the handle, and a hardened screwdriver tip. Few of the extant examples have the knurl retaining pin feature. A 1909 image connects a version with "pierced sides" to Tower and Lyon.
The patent was used as the basis for a suit brought by TOWER, on the premise that the B&C combination wrench [ based on patent nos. 6,002 and 57,621 ] infringed the Boardman patent. TOWER lost the suit. | |
