Here is a fairly simple and compact butt gage. The main claims
here are for the compact design, and the unusual bevelled marking
wheels. These wheels are designed to leave a finished edge to the
mortise, eliminating the need to chisel the edges. Seems like
you'd have to press pretty hard to accomplish that feat, but I
suppose it could work
