Description: |
| The patented features include the shape of the adjustable jaw, a retaining lock nut on the base of the adjusting screw, and the use of a sliding wedge key combined with notches in the main shank and corresponding lugs on the inner portion of the adjustable jaw. This patent is the basis for the Coes Key Model wrench which was produced in four nominal sizes: 28, 36, 48 and 72 inches. A 7 1/2 inch long brass "salesman sample" is also known. Only three examples of the 72 inch KEY MODEL are known as of spring 2026.
Miniaturist Hilary Klein produced brass miniatures of this wrench, and a celluloid image was produced as a letter opener. |
