Description: |
| The wrench features movable jaws adjusted by a central right- and left-hand threaded screw. The jaws are mounted on a pivoting head which has teeth around part of its circumference that engage a pawl allowing for ratchet type movement. The head also has several sizes of thread-cutting dies and the handle has a rectangular opening to turn thread-forming taps. This is the earliest wrench patent to incorporate threading dies; such dies became a "standard" feature of early 20th Century alligator wrenches based on the Charles Benesh Feb. 17, 1903 patent (no. 720,554). This is also the earliest "angle adjustable" adjustable open end wrench patent. Dennis Harrigan's Oct. 15, 1867 "angle adjustable" wrench (Pat. No. 69,911) notes this patent. |
