| Description: | | The patent is Brown's improvement on the adjusting screw of his November 30, 1858 pipe tongs patent (no. 22,157). In this patent, the head of the adjusting screw stays flush to the handle so it it less liable to be damaged. There are steel facings for the hook jaw and replaceable steel teeth for the short jaw.
This design along with alternatives in 142,143 and 145,929 was folded into a broader patent in Canada CA-2,923 and Britain GB-187303762, with Hazen P. Huntoon as assignee. | |
