| Description: | | This is the famous Aiken Tool Holder. The patent describes the hollow handle with a lead cushioned bottom and screw cap, the grip which tightens into a threaded socket, the wrench to tighten and loosen the grip, and the twenty tools with square serrated shanks designed to be used with the handle. A parallel design patent (no. D1,001 issued May 11, 1858), covers the labels for a box holding this tool.
The tool was sold for many decades (see 3rd image for 1880 catalog listing). | |
